Trading In Pokémon GO Has Begun!
Hello there Trainers! If you haven’t heard yet, the Pokémon GO trading feature is now live! This is literally the moment we have all been waiting for ever since the game was released two years ago! Are you all as excited as I am right now!?
There are so many exciting new features that are included in the trading update. One new feature is called the Friends feature. This feature will allow trainers to connect with friends in new and exciting ways. Being more connected with those that are closest to you is one of the great perks of playing Pokémon GO.
If you want to add a friend on your Pokémon GO account, you must first ask them for their Trainer Code. This is similar to the friend codes that the Pokémon Games on the Nintendo 3DS have. Once you have that trainers’ code, you just enter it into the game and send them a request. All they have to do is accept the request, and you will both become friends. All of your friends will appear on your Friends List.
So you have a bunch of friends on your Friends List, but what can you do with them exactly? Now that you have friends, you can do all sorts of cool stuff with them. You can send them items, receive gifts from them, earn bonuses while battling together and of course trade Pokémon with them.
Once you have some friends in Pokémon GO, you will start to receive gifts when you spin Photo Discs at PokéStops and Gyms. You will not be able to open these gifts yourself, but you can send these gifts to anyone that you have on your Friends List.
Each gift will contain a small bundle of helpful items as well as a postcard picturing the place that the gift was picked up at. Sometimes gifts will contain an extra special item such as a special 7 km egg that contains an Alolan form of a Pokémon from the Kanto region. Pick up and send as many gifts as you can so you friends will send you a bunch too.
Each friend on your Friends List will have a Friendship Meter. You can increase your Friendship Level by sending your friend a Gift or by taking on a Gym or Raid Boss together. The higher your Friendship Level, the greater the added bonuses are when you are battling together.
When you are Great Friends with a Trainer and you both take on a Raid Boss or Gym, you will both earn an Attack Bonus. This will give both of your Pokémon an advantage in the battle, and increase your chances of winning. You can only increase your Friendship Level once per day per friend, so keep that in mind.
You can increase your Friendship Level in other ways too. Trading Pokémon with a Friend can also increase your Friendship Level. Any Trainer that is at level 10 or higher can trade any Pokémon that they have caught with a friend that they are in close proximity to.
Once you complete a trade, you will earn bonus Candy for the Pokémon you have traded away. That Candy bonus can increase based on how far away the Pokémon was caught from your friends location.
You can’t just go crazy with trading though, since it costs Stardust to make trades. Some trades may also cost more Stardust than others. Building your Friendship Level with Trainers that you are trading with, will decrease the amount of Stardust needed to complete trades with them.
Some Pokémon like Legendaries, Shiny Pokémon and Pokémon not currently in your PokéDex will require a Special Trade to complete. Special Trades are limited to only once per day and can only occur between Great Friends and Best Friends.
Special Trades require a lot of Stardust to complete, so be aware of you Stardust stash. Special Trades can get friends to become even closer, and gives you an opportunity to show them just how much they mean to you. Make sure you really want to let go of you Special Pokémon before you trade them away.
The only type of Pokémon that absolutely cannot be traded are Mythical Pokémon. Mythical Pokémon will continue to only be accessible through completing the Special Research tasks. There will be more Research specific Pokémon in the future that will not be available for trading.
Another aspect of the Trading Feature is that the stats of Pokémon that are traded will randomly change within a given range. Before the trade is completed, you will see a range of CP and HP that the traded Pokémon could potentially have once the trade is over.
Factors such as the Trainers Level and Friendship Level can impact the CP and HP after the trade. The Trainers Level is used to ensure that the Pokémon they receive isn’t powered up past Pokémon that they would normally be able to catch at their current Trainer level.
Friendship Level will determine the minimum stat values of those traded Pokémon. These stat values will increase as your Friendship Level increases with the Trainer that you are trading with. Also, once a Pokémon has been traded, it cannot be traded again. This prevents Trainers from continually re-rolling a Pokémon’s stats through trade and becoming too strong.
The feature was also designed in a specific way that would prevent players from becoming unfairly stronger than others. That’s why Special Trades are limited and all trades cost Stardust to complete. The developers wanted the trading feature to be exciting, but not overshadow the excitement and challenge of finding and catching newer and stronger Pokémon.
They did not want to devalue the hard work that many Trainers put in to get the amazing Pokémon that they have and to reach the level that they are at. Letting everyone trade as a free for all, would cause exploitation and create a black market, which is not what the game is all about.
The primary goal of the Trading Feature and Friendship Feature was to bring Trainers closer and get them to play the game together. This allows Trainers to connect meaningfully in-games as well as outside the game. It also encourages more teamwork and pushes Trainers to branch out and make new friends.
Now that you guys know how the new Pokémon GO Trade Feature works, it’s time to gather your friends and start making some trades. Don’t forget to make some new friends along the way and increase your current Friendship Levels to get the most out of this exciting feature.
Until next time…..show some love to your friends!
