Celebrate the Equinox with Pokémon GO!
The Pokémon GO Team just dropped some updates and news recently and I just had some time to read it over. That means it’s time for me to keep you in the loop with the latest Pokémon GO updates and give you all you need to know about the upcoming Equinox Event.
Well today marks the last day of Summer for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere like me, and the last day of Winter for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere. If you are living in the Southern Hemisphere you are probably very excited for the days to start getting longer and warmer. Time to thaw out trainers!
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, you probably have mixed emotions about today, as do I. I am a tad bit sad that summer is over and I even had to close up my pool last weekend for the season. 🙁 Of course I took one more dip before shutting it down though.
It was a gorgeous summer day, so it really stunk to have to close it given the awesome weather. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Besides the water was pretty cold seeing as the temps drop quite a bit at night here.
On the other hand, I am excited for the next season. I love Autumn and all the beautiful foliage and fun activities that take place during the season. Apple picking, pumpkin carving, Halloween, haunted hay rides, apple cider, Pumpkin Spice flavored coffee (which I am drinking right now as I type this) and Thanksgiving just to name a few. Autumn is truly a wonderful time of year.
For those of you that are sad to be seeing the seasons change this time around, I have some news that just might cheer you up a bit and make you feel better about the new season. Pokémon GO is having a special event to help celebrate the upcoming Equinox!
How Can I Celebrate The Equinox?
The new season is brining new adventures for Trainers everywhere. The Pokémon GO Equinox Event will start tomorrow Friday, September 22nd at 1:00 PM PDT and end on Monday, October 2nd at 1:00 PM PDT. It will last for a little over a week.
During the Equinox Event, Trainers will earn double Stardust for catching any Pokémon. Double Stardust will also be awarded for hatching Eggs. This will be a nice boost in Stardust that can be used to toughen up your Pokémon so you can take on stronger opponents.
All this extra Stardust will come in handy when trying to take on the Legendary Beasts. It may just help you beat a tough Raid Boss, which in turn may make you eligible for an EX Raid Pass to take on Mewtwo. Stocking up on Stardust is a must for these super strong Pokémon.
While you are out on your Pokémon adventure, don’t forget to stop by all the PokéStops and Gyms along the way. During the Equinox Event you will be able to collect special 2 km Eggs from PokéStops and Gyms everywhere.
These special 2 km Eggs have the opportunity to hatch into rare and hard to find Pokémon such as Mareep, Larvitar, Chansey and more. Take this time to try and register those hard to locate Pokémon and get your PokéDex up to speed.
As with previous events, you will be able to purchase special limited time boxes from the in game store. These special boxes will contain items such as Lucky Eggs, Lure Modules and the all new Super Incubators.
Lucky Eggs help to boost XP gained from battles, catches and evolutions. Lure Modules can be used on PokéStops to attract more Pokémon to them. The all new Super Incubator will hatch Eggs 1.5 times faster than regular Incubators.
With all the special 2 km Eggs I plan on collecting, I am definitely going to need a bunch of Super Incubators to keep up with them all. It’s best to stock up while they are available and hatch all the special Pokémon while you can. I am going to be a Pokémon Egg hatching machine next week!
So we know that all captures get rewarded with double Stardust, but if you capture and register a new Pokémon during the Equinox event you will also earn triple the normal XP. I would say that this is the perfect time to go out and catch those super tough Legendaries or other Raid Bosses that you don’t have yet.
All that extra XP will also come in handy for future Raid Battles as well as EX Raid Battles. You only have a week to take advantage of these bonuses, so don’t wait until it’s over. You’ll be sorry if you do.
Other Pokémon GO Updates
As you all know, time is ticking on your chance to capture the first of the three Legendary Beasts. You have until September 30th to catch the first Beast, either Raikou, Entei, or Suicune depending on your location.
Once the end of the month comes, the Legendary Beasts will change position, and your chance to catch the first one will be up. Don’t forget to make some time to catch Beast number one before it is too late. No one wants a hole in their PokéDex.
Not sure if any of you have had any luck in securing an EX Raid Pass yet, but I know some Trainers who have. They have also had some luck in catching a Mewtwo. I’m a little jealous, not gonna lie.
This means that EX Raids are actively in the Beta stage. You still have a chance to try and take on Mewtwo and even add him to your collection. Time is of the essence.
So far it seems that those who have received an invite to an EX Raid have done so by completing a Raid Battle at a Sprint Gym Location. This looks to be the only type of Gym location to be actively giving out EX Raid Passes, so if you have one near you, go on and check it out for yourself.
Once again Pokémon GO is rolling out an update for the App. Pokémon GO version 0.75.0 for Android and version 1.45.0 for iOS is available for download now. Just head on over to the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices.
With this update comes the ability to view all items received by spinning Gym Photo Discs and PokéStop Photo Discs in the Journal. You will also be able to see items earned by completing Raid Battles in the Journal.
More features have been added to the Pokémon Collection screen search functionality. Trainers can now search through their collection by using the terms “Legendary” and “Defender.” This will make it easier to show off your sweet Legendary Pokémon collection.
The issue where some icons would disappear when scrolling through the PokéDex has been fixed. A bug was fixed that caused Pikachu hats to not show up on the in-game model and icon.
I was a little scared when I first encountered that bug, because I had worked so hard to catch a Pikachu with Ash’s hat and I thought it was gone. I was like oh no! So glad that has been fixed, as Pikachu is way cuter with a little hat on.
Pokémon Gold & Silver
Not only does tomorrow mark the Equinox, but it also marks the release date of Pokémon Gold & Silver on the virtual console. It feels like ages ago that the existence of Pokémon Gold & Silver on the 3DS was first announced. I thought we would never get there.
I am super excited for tomorrow! As soon as I get home from work I am downloading both Pokémon Gold & Silver and taking a trip down memory lane. Its going to be one heck of a nostalgia trip, that’s for sure.
There is also a little bonus that comes along with the digital download of Pokémon Gold & Silver. When you purchase and download the game through the Nintendo eShop on your 3DS or 2DS you will receive a serial code on your receipt for a special Celebi.
Unfortunately, Celebi can not be downloaded on Pokémon Gold & Silver. This code can be used for Pokémon Sun & Moon or it can be saved and redeemed on Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon once they are released. The choice if yours.
The code can be received through the purchase of Pokémon Gold & Silver from September 22, 2017 through September 21, 2018. The Celebi serial code can be redeemed until October 31, 2018. If you wait any longer than that, the serial code will no longer be valid.
Well that’s all I have for you guys right now. I hope you enjoyed these event updates and plan to get out and take full advantage of them. Let me know if you have any questions or comments on the upcoming events.
Until next time…….bring on the Equinox!
